„The second part of The Brothers Karamazov bearing the subtitle Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way, follows the often neglected narrative line about the Snegiryov family and the relationship of the youngest of the Karamazov borthers, Alyosha, with the boys gathered around the youngest of the Snegiryov sons, Ilyusha. By opting to develop an entirely new play, this narrative line is treated with the same interest as the narrative line about the Karamazov family presented in the first part. Separating the narrative lines into two different plays, the two families are juxtaposed even further. However, neither one is idealised over the other. Moreover, this serves to indicate that different layers of society appear to have the same problems and these problems are faced by characters of different ages (children included). Due to the given context and the potential complexity of different reading levels, some references to certain events from Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky’s life as well as references to some of his other works are introduced here. In the second part of the play, the lines repeated from the first part are now delivered by a different character, thus creating a certain polyphony and allowing the possibility of multiple reading.“ – Karla Mesek
