THE GRAND-PRIX OF THE 62ND MESS AWARDED TO “ANNA KARENINA”

The Festival’s jury composed of professor, author and editor Andrea Lešić-Thomas, PhD (Bosnia and Herzegovina), theater and film director Fator Berisha (Kosovo) and artistic director, theater director and dramaturge Giacomo Pedini (Italy) announced the laureates of the 62nd edition of the International Theater Festival MESS at the award ceremony held at the Sarajevo National Theater.

Grand Prix – “The Golden Laurel Wreath for the best theater performance overall”

“Anna Karenina”, Drama Studio “Prazan Prostor” and the Royal Theater “Zetski dom”, Montenegro

The Golden Laurel Wreath for best director

Oliver Frljić for the drama diptych “Brothers Karamazov”, Zagreb Youth Theater

The Golden Laurel Wreath for best actor/actress

Aleksandar Gavranić in Anna Karenina

Tatjana Šojić for the role of Mila in “Purple”, Chamber Theater 55

Giorgos Katsis for the role of Julio in “Republic of Baklava”, Athens & Epidauros Festival

The “Rejhan Demirdžić” award for best young actor/actress

Pavle Prelević and Sanja Vujisić for their roles in “Anna Karenina”

The special mention of the jury for the best lighting and stage design went to “Amore”, Emilia Romagna Teatro, Compagnia Pippo Delbono from Italy.

 

The best performance of the Mini MESS programme was decided on by children’s votes and this year’s winner is the performance “A Fairy Tale for Outdoors: The Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf and Granny.”

 

 

Apart from the awards presented by the jury and management of the MESS Festival, the recipients of awards awarded by the media sponsors of the MESS Festival were also announced at the ceremony: 

 

  • Oslobođenje – Golden Mask for Best Performance –  “Anna Karenina”

 

  • “Dani” Magazine – Brave New World – “Purple”, directed by Selma Spahić (Chamber Theater 55)  
  • Radio Sarajevo – Sound of MESS – Ilija Gajević for the music and sound in “Anna Karenina”

 

The “Marko Kovačević” award for critical reviews of productions shown at this year’s edition of MESS Festival was awarded to Stela Mišković, a member of the review team.

 

As part of the main program of the 62nd edition of the MESS Festival, the audience had an opportunity to see 14 performances from 12 different countries, whilst the MINI Mess program was comprised of 6 performances for young audiences featuring 300 artists.
